TRANSMEDIA PRACTICE - GROUP WORK PROGRESSION

Brainstorming and Idea Research

Group projects require teamwork, however it is not that everyone does the same position. Any successful team needs people to take on roles as our professional life is a team sport. (ART MARKMAN, 2020). Throughout the whole project, two of us separated to do the parts we are good at. We managed to finish our part and gained experiences, as we came across with skills that are new to us. It seems a small project but it requires a lot of team working skills to bring our project to the best outcome. We learned how to work and give updates with each other, which updates within group mates are important. It is to ensure each of us can work effectively and achieve a happier yet more productive team. (olivia, 2020). Starting from doing research and ideas brainstorming, to the execution of a project, we knew the knowledge and steps to create a transmedia project.

Animation Video

Storyline & script

Before entering to the execution, we came out with the transmedia storytelling idea. Therefore, we start to write the storyline for this transmedia project and the script for the first web pilot series. The story revolves around a girl with 3 identities. The girlish side that she reveals it to the public when she started working, a university girl trying to figure out her sexual orientation, and the men-like side of her that only she herself knows. The character face the same issue, which is fear of people’s judgement.

Web Series

Mindmapping

Website will be our main media to gather the information and media. Before getting started with the execution of a website, we have some brainstorming sessions and discussion to figure out the concept of the website and what is the content to put in the website.

Idea (content & layout)

After confirming the idea and concept of the website for the campaign, we analyzed it and concluded it to let it have a clearer vision. The goal for this website is to let the audience participate in the web series episodes, meanwhile search the clues in the website to get inspiration unleashing themselves. Also, gaining awareness of the brand, H'ana. To categorize all the information, we have made some sketches of the website layout and finalize the content. The idea of the website is a platform where it gathers the episodes of web pilots, the clues, and introduction of the campaign. Participants will visit the website to watch the video first then being led to Twitter and Instagram. At last, leading them back to the website again to play a mini game “guess the correct answer to get free vouchers”. It is to have interactions with the audience, and fully utilize the website. We wanted to connect with the audience and have more interactions. Instead, we insert some of the clues in the website to let the participants search for it.

Wireframe

Wireframes of the website are created for a better understanding. Well, after creating the website, it is indeed helpful to overview the whole website and be able to point out mistakes and improvements in further development. Therefore, after a few rounds of trial and error, a final wireframe of the website is done. Which, the next step is going to execute the website.

Website Progression

During the process of the website, it was a fun experience where we learned a lot too. From a basic website until the website we intended to create. However, we felt it lacked interactions and excitement, thus, we created some gif animations to add on to the website. The aim is to create some excitement for the audience and gain their interest to find the next story.

Instagram

Mindmap

One of the transmedia from the campaign is the instagram. We used Instagram as a platform to reveal one of the character’s daily lives. Therefore, before start with the illustration and execution, we have a brainstorming session using mindmap to have a rough idea on what content to be inserted in the instagram, how it would works.

Idea (content)

We had discussion and finalized the idea. What we did for the next step is having a draft sketch on the content of Instagram, as in what to show and the captions. It’s indeed a process where we put lots of efforts too since it’s also part of the storyline for the campaign. Hence, there are few rounds of trial and error to improve the contents of Instagram.

Progression

Of course there are trials and errors, illustrations were created during the process of building the instagram for one’s character. Before putting all stuff into Instagram, we did illustrations for the scene and daily lives of that character.

After finishing with illustrations, the illustrations and captions are uploaded to Instagram. In fact, the clues and hints were all hidden in the caption message, stories or the illustrations. 


    
Fig 5 : there are posts that record the lives or emotion of one’s character, captions and highlights were also added into it. Participants may search the clues through the captions or illustrations.

Twitter

As the second medium of our transmedia web series, we decided to use Twitter to reveal one of the character's emotions and life, which is the character 2, the one who is a university girl. She believes that love has no boundaries as well as gender. Feeling different from others, she seeks into identifying her sexuality. Hence, the idea for Twitter medium is to reveal her thoughts and emotions of H'ana’s “another personality”. The content will be retweeting the articles, quotes or any information that is relevant to her thoughts. These tweets and news will give some hints too on who she is. At one day of her tweets, a post “follow my instagram” will be shown in her profile too as a connection to Instagram that leads audience find the next clue from instagram.

Marketing 

Mindmap 

Before kick start with the illustration of social media, we did a mind map brainstorming session for the marketing part. The first phase of campaign is the web series and each transmedia. However, to make the campaign go more viral and to let the audience know there’s a campaign, marketing is needed to boost the views. Therefore, the 2nd phase is having some marketing boost. The goal is to bring the audience from the instagram (where the ending reveals) back to our campaign website. Meanwhile, promoting the product of H'ana too.

After having brainstorming session and discussion with lecturer, we made a conclusion and digital sketch for a better understanding. How we did the marketing strategy is by asking ourselves the 5ws, which is when, why, what, how and where.

Progression 

After confirming the ideas of marketing, it is time to execute with the layout and design of the social post and posters. There are trials and errors, which we aimed to bring the best message in the post.

Mockups

To show a clearer visual to the client, we did mockups for the social post and the key visual of the campaign as well as the posters for promotional purposes. Well, it is indeed an interesting experience for us since we are not only doing design and transmedia but also considering the marketing part for the campaign.
