Brainstorming and Idea Concepts

Self Reflection

It is common to see people comparing themselves to others around them, especially based on the strengths and weaknesses. Every individual are meant to be special and different depends on our personalities. It is vital to know yourself wisely, both strengths and weaknesses. Both are as equally as important as it shows you a better understanding of yourself. Strengths are things that you can grip on, to push yourself further. Whereas weaknesses, it is not the downfall. It is actually chances of an improvement in developing and building on something you're lack of. (Hyma , P., 2019)

Strengths are the mixture of knowledges, skills and talent. Recognizing different types of colleagues in workplace is considered as knowledge, getting along and maintaining good relationships with colleagues are skills while being able to deal and influence colleagues or clients effectively are talents. Hence, it is crucial to determine your strengths and weaknesses in an early life for personal development, self-accomplishment and career success. (Journey To Leadership, 2020)

In order to know myself better, I first did a personality test. After analysing, it is shown that I am a logician. The Logician personality type is rather rare, taking up only three percent of the population. Somehow it is actually a good thing as Logicians does not like to be said “common”. They are proud of their inventiveness and creative mind, unique point of view and vigorous mind. Commonly known as the philosopher, the architect, or the dreamy professor. (16Personalities, 2020.)

Fig 1 Personality Test Result

Strengths

1. Enthusiastics
Logicians can be quite enthusiastics when When a new concept or idea stimulates their interest. They are rather a more quiet person, but when they meet someone that shares the same interest, they will always be excited to talk about it.

2. Great analysts and abstract thinkers
Usually see the world as a big and complex machine. Logicians excel in inspecting these connections, seeing how the non-related factors tie in with one another in ways that bewilder most other personality types.

3. Open-minded
Rather open-minded to other theories, as long as it is proven by precise facts and logics. When it comes to ideas related to subjective matters like traditions and social norms, logicians are fairly general. They usually take it with a 'none of my business' attitude and think that people's idea are all that matters.

Weaknesses

1. Very private and withdrawn
Logicians are mostly introverted. Towards people, they are mostly quite shy in social places especially crowded area or parties. It is a struggle even for close peers to get into a Logician's hearts and mind.

2. Second-Guess Themselves
Logicians tend to be overly open to new ideas and concepts that they often never commit to a final decision at all. Same goes to their skills too. They apply, practice, enhance but any work they do is second-best to what they could have done. This causes delay to the output indefinitely due to constant revisions, sometimes even end up quitting before beginning.

3. Absent-minded
When Logicians get too immerse into their work, their absence goes far off from social matters and the rest of the physical world. They can become very forgetful. Worst when they let slip of their health by skipping meals and sleep as they muse.

Professional Field

Interactive design, a field of study that concentrates on the transmission of media between human and technology through collaborative process. The aim of an interaction design is to build products that fits the objectives of the user in the best way possible. An interaction designer is the one working on the design, development, creative or marketing team that assists in creating a design strategy. They are the one who identify the key interactions of a product, testing out the ideas by creating mockups or prototypes and keep up on current technology and trends that will impact users. The interactions involved are mostly elements like aesthetics, audio, space, motion, and more. (The Interaction Design Foundation, 2020)

In order to create a good interactive design, it is important to understand the five dimensions concept. It was first introduced by an interaction design academic, Gillian Crampton Smith. He first introduced only the four dimensions. Next, a senior interaction designer at IDEXX, Laboratories, Kevin Silver, introduced the fifth. (The Interaction Design Foundation, 2020)

Five dimensions of interactive design :

1D - Words
Should be kept simple and meaningful to understand, especially those used for purpose of interaction like button labels. Mostly used to provide essential information for users.

2D - Visual representations
Includes graphic elements like typography, images, and icons for users to interact with. Usually companion with words to share information to users.

3D - Physical objects or space
Mainly the physical objects that users use to interact with. For example, laptop with a mouse or touchpad, using fingers via smartphones. For spaces wise, it mostly includes the area user interact at. Was it on the street walking interacting via smartphones, or using laptop on a desk? Different objects and spaces affect the experience of the users interaction with the products.

4D - Time
Mostly refers to media that alter with the time such as animation, motion, videos and audio. The movement and sounds play an important role in offering visual and audio response to interaction from users. Besides, the amount of time users spent on the products is also part of the concern. Can the user resume their interactions later on or are they able to track their progress in the future?

5D - Behaviour
It is basically on how the previous dimensions define a product's interactions. Mainly involve the reactions (emotional responses and feedbacks) of the users and product. For example, how is the action of product performed?

Self Branding Concept

After knowing myself better, I started brainstorming on ideas of my branding. I did some research and found some references on how I want my branding to be.

Logo Concept

Logos are meant to visually communicate the unique identity of the brand and it's representative. It is actually the identification of a company. (Solis, B., 2016.) It helps audiences or clients to recognize, identify, and choose you before others. Besides, they are meant to be a strategy tool for your business. (Ooley, A., 2018)

Logo Progress (Sketches)

I've sketches a few logos design that randomly appear on my mind before getting a final one.

Final Logo Choice (Sketches)

After some random sketches on paper and screen, I have decided on one of it to be the choice of my final logo. I chose this as my logo because the 'N' words resemble my name Ann and it is easily recognizable. It requires six points to form this shape, each has its meaning behind. The highest point is my goal to be a good interaction designer and the five other points each are the dimensions needed to be an interaction designer. It reminds myself that to create a good product, these elements are a must. It also represents a promise I give to my clients.

Colour Palette

After digitizing the logo, I have chose some colours for my branding. In the end, I decided to go with blue and beige. This is because the meaning behind the colours symbolises my brand and promises towards clients. Blue symbolizes trust, confidence and faith. (Jennifer, B., 2016) Meanwhile the colour beige shows that a person is flexible, dependable and dedicated. “(Beige Color Meaning and Symbolism, 2020)

Resume

A summary of an individual's experience and skills. Quite similar to CV, the only difference is CV are more for mid-level and management-level candidates. Whereas for resume, it should be as brief as possible. Normally a one pager with bulleted lists of informations of individual's educations, working history and accomplishment. (Doyle,2020)

Resume Draft

I had first written down and categorized my list of informations needed for my resume.

Resume Progress

After rough drafting, I started designing my resume based on my branding. The first version of my resume can be seen as below. I felt that the logo and name seems to be in a very awkward position. The slanted contact informations are pretty hard to read as well. People might need to tilt their head or my resume in order to read it.

Fig 14 Resume Draft 1

The top part of my second version of resume seems a little too empty. The left side of the resume does not look too consistent to the right side. Overall, the resume does not have the balance in it.

Fig 15 Resume Draft 2

This is the third version of my resume. Almost there, but lecturer commented that the logo are a little too huge. Some grammar error have been spotted and the skills should be arranged in sequence to have a cleaner look.

Final Outcome of Resume

After several changes, this is my final design of resume. Qr code that link to my portfolio website are added so that people can scan and view it directly. The size of logo has been reduced as well.

Cover Letter

Cover letter is an introduction letter of your resume. It is usually the first thing employers see when they pick up your resume from the pile of applications. The purpose of this letter is to introduce yourself, shows your interest in the company, withdraw attention to your resume and persuade the reader to interview you. The letter is the first contact the employer have with you. Many think it is not important. Research shows that 45% of job seekers skip writing a cover letter. Hence if you write one, you are a step ahead of almost half of your competitor. (LiveCareer Staff Writer, 2020)

Cover Letter Draft

I first started summarizing and drafting for my cover letter. After showing it to lecturer, the writing was pretty much similar to what has been stated on resume. It does not state much of my interest and skills. Hence, it will not attracts employer to continue reading it.

Fig 17 Cover Letter Draft 1

After the first draft, I rewrote a better version and lecturer have approved to it and it is good to move on to the design part.

Cover Letter Design

After done drafting, I started designing the layout of the letter. The logo and contact information have been added onto the letter as well as the qr code to my portfolio too. However, lecturer said the background colour of cover letter is best to remain in white. This is to ease the reading of the reader.
