WEEK 1

Every MCU Movie Ranked From Worst To Best - FandomWire

CASE STUDY OF TRANSMEDIA WORK

Storytelling. A most effective way to insert ideas into the world today. There’s never been a more exciting moment to be a

storyteller. Transmedia, in short, is portraying stories across numerous media channels where each individual is capable of

stand-alone and yet, makes a decent contribution to the grand narrative. MCU is currently known as one of the first and

most successful examples of transmedia storytelling.

Marvel has joined a serial television series into this grand narrative and incorporated secondary elements, along with short

films and comic books, in order to catch audiences deeper. What makes MCU so successful is the application of Jenkin’s

seven principles and also some other criteria. One of them is the connection of individual MCU movies. Besides the plots

intertwined and character arcs, the common tone and feel are one of the main keys. No matter any inspiration they got from,

even if it’s under a different genre, MCU always remains superhero movies with intense action sequences, some humor and

optimistic mood.

Marvel Studio is actually the first production company to realize in full the potential hinted at in earlier transmedia efforts.

From a mixed start in television, followed by Netflix series to video games. In tv series, the inner side of each character was

brought up more compared to in movies. For instance, it shows more of the characters feelings and thoughts after the alien

invasion. Besides, the video games were used to fill in the gaps in big screen narratives. It fills up all the little details that are

missed out from the movies.

Flexible continuity is also one of the criteria to be a successful transmedia storytelling. Characters intersect were applied in

the movies. For instance, in the movie Spiderman Homecoming, it shows that Ironman is the one who gave him the suits

before he goes for the fight. It is to incorporate story additions. In addition, a transmedia story needs to be malleable enough

that it can extend into any form while also stressing the strengths of each medium. MCU managed to recast the production

of comic book films and video games in terms of the iconic characters itself, and not in terms of the specific media platforms.

Even in such, Marvel always makes sure that the audiences are receiving the same experiences with every product of theirs.

The transmedia practice of Marvel is definitely a good example to follow, especially in this era where people seek for constant

engagement and entertainment. These practices have met the expectations of the social communities and basically, Marvel’s

success was indeed granted.
